Villonova vs Michigan

Every year when the first Monday  in April comes it is time for the men's college basketball national championship game for the NCAA tournament. A tournament that starts out with 68 d1 division teams that after 3 weekends come down to 2 teams playing for a national championship. This year national championship game featured 2 story programs in Michigan and Villanova. According to ESPN Medcalf, M "Michigan was seeking there 2 national title first since 1989." "While Villanova was seeking its 3 national title overall and 2 title in the last 3 years." Michigan was overmatched last night by a superior Villanova team that was clicking all tournament. With Villanova behind one of there players Donte DiVincenzo coming off the bench scoring 31 points to help Villanova win with the final score of 79-62. Michigan on the other hand championship woes and drought not winning a title since 1989 continues. While according to ESPN "Villanova was the first team since the 2009 UNC team to win all there tournament games by double digits." Villanova was also the first team since UNC 2005 not only to win all there tournament games by double digits but also to lead the country in points per game. With Villanova winning last night according to McIntosh, W from sbnation "the city of Philadelphia is first sports town to have a NFL team and a college basketball team win a title in there sports in the same year.

Now watching the game last night it was interesting because the game was about 2 teams with unique strengths. Michigan strength being one of the best defensives team in the country and the best against guarding the 3 point line. Villanova strength was being the best offense averaging the most points per game but also shooting and making the most 3 pointers. This left a interesting narrative on which team will be able to oppose itself on the other. At first it look like Michigan had the upper hand getting whatever it want but the game was still close. When Donte DiVincenzo for Villanova came into the game all of that change and momentum went immediately to Villanova. Villanova was getting whatever it want for the rest of the game and the score got out of hand. The score didn't indicate how lopsided the game really was with Villanova being up by double digits the whole second half. Michigan did everything it possible could to try and come back and make it a game. But just like 35 other teams found out this season Villanova is was nearly unstoppable this season finishing with a record of 36-4.
